Keep Your Brain Active
We are told that in order to age well, we must keep our bodies in good working order. Health care providers encourage us to eat a balanced diet, exercise, and take medications as prescribed. What about our brain? It is critical to work your brain as well. [We talk] about eating your veggies for brain health, but it is also important to exercise your brain.
There are many ways to keep your brain active, including reading, socializing, and playing games. Although this may not prevent a disease process such as Alzheimer’s, according to Dr. Gary Small, Director of the UCLA Longevity Center at the University’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior and Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, keeping your brain active may help an individual compensate for memory deficits.
