Get the Best Caregiver for You
You’ve made the decision to let a caregiver come into your home to assist. That was hard enough. Now you are getting apprehensive about what to expect when the caregiver arrives for work. If you don’t have experience with in-home care, all sorts of “worst case scenarios” are whirling about in your head. And then there are the questions: What should you do if you don’t like the caregiver? How should you approach problems? Who supervises the caregiver?
If you have selected Regent Healthcare as your Home Care company, you can expect a lot of support in easing your anxieties. It is Regent Healthcare’s job to answer your questions in advance and resolve any issues that arise. The key to facilitating your satisfaction and comfort is good communication with your Regent Healthcare Client Services Manager and with your caregiver.
Here are a few tips for establishing positive relationships with your home care professionals:
Be completely honest about your needs!
To overcome embarrassment or guilt, remember that you are dealing with professionals who have helped a variety of clients. State your preferences from the start!
The best way to get exactly what you want is to be specific. Give Regent Healthcare a detailed request so we can ensure our caregiver will meet your unique needs. Items to include are your household rules, such as “no shoes” or “kosher kitchen”. Also express your daily routines, such as “up at 7 a.m.”, “breakfast first, medication second, shower last” , or “I need privacy from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.”. Finally, specify the type of caregiver personality that would work best with you, whether it’s a cheerful personality that will motivate you to keep active, or a caregiver that will be patient with your forgetfulness. Whatever your needs are, the more detailed you are up front, the easier it is for us to match you with the right caregiver and prepare your caregiver to best serve you.
Give feedback in a timely manner!
Most problems start out small and can be resolved when addressed promptly. Regent Healthcare’s Client Services Managers will perform quality check ins on a regular basis. If you are experiencing a problem with your caregiver, bring it to our attention as soon as possible. Employee supervision is our responsibility and we are trained in resolving provlems diplomatically. If the problem cannot be resolved to your satisfaction or you simply aren’t connecting with your caregiver’s personality, you can request a different caregiver at any time.
If you start off with honesty and communication, having an in-home caregiver is sure to be a successful and beneficial experience.
